JOB PURPOSE

The role of the thermal systems engineer will be to specify, simulate, design, develop and validate engine and vehicle thermal systems from concept through to production. They will be responsible for both delivery of their own work and support to more junior members of the department.

Accountability / Key Responsibilities:

• Production of cost effective and high quality innovative thermal engineering solutions;
• Analysing and directing recommendations for problem resolution to the expectation of the client;
• Maintain awareness of and drive development of industry leading thermal system technologies;
• Liaison with clients, suppliers and other organisations;
• Preparations  and maintenance of process documentation associated with the analysis  and test process;
• Preparation of test plans, test activities and reports;
• Agreement to and procurement of test properties (real and virtual) and suitable test facilities;
• Preparation of detailed technical presentations for both internal and client project engineering review;
• Preparation of marketing material to support business development activities;
• Preparation and delivery of technical proposals to client organisations.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION

Skills:

• Degree qualified in mechanical engineering;
• Minimum 3 years experience of research and development;
• Experience of real world testing of vehicles for Thermal system attributes;
• Application experience of applying modeling techniques to thermo-fluid systems to deliver design solutions;
• Thermodynamic analysis experience;
• Detailed experience of commercial 1-d and 3-d thermal modeling codes (e.g. Flowmaster, AMESim, Fluent).

Knowledge:

• In depth theoretical knowledge of thermal systems including air conditioning;
• Abilities to set-up, run and download data from suitable data-logging devices.
