Duties and responsibilities:

Consultation on the diagnosis and management of infection and infectious diseases in the hospitals and local community.

Day to day supervision of clinical and scientific diagnostic methods and examination of specimens and authorisation and interpretation of the results obtained.

Involvement in the management of individual patients through clinical liaison and ward based activity

To lead on infection control issues Hospital Infection Control Committee.

To support and advise on Infection Prevention and Control (DIPC) in all infection control issues

Responsibility for achieving/maintaining full accreditation of the laboratory with Clinical Pathology Accreditation (UK) Limited.

Business Planning, including the assessment and introduction of new methods and forward planning for staff and equipment requirements.

To participate in the teaching, supervision and development of junior medical and non-medical staff in the department and staff appraisal.

Contribute to audits and ongoing research activity

Person Specification:

MBBS or Equivalent

Full GMC registration with a licence to practise (or eligible for full GMC registration)

FRCPath or equivalent

Minimum 7 years full time Post-grad experience

Minimum of 2 years of continuous experience in Microbiology

Consultant level experience

Leadership and Management skills

Efficiency in Teamwork and superior communication skills
